Description
David Bowie - 'The man who sold the world' UK Dress cover LP (1971)
For auction is a copy of the vinyl rarity from David Bowie entitled:
‘The man who sold the world’ [Mercury 6338 041]
Issued in 1971, this particular version was the early Mercury label release (later withdrawn) depicting Bowie in the then ‘controversial’ dress costume.
(Note: Bowie's left foot appears about 8mm from the right edge of the cover)
LP is produced by ‘Tonny Visconti’ (see ‘Label’ picture)
Machine stamped numbers on the lead out (also pictured) are:
Side A 6338041 1Y//?420 1 1 3
Side B 6338041 2Y//?420 1 1 1
The textured cover is in very good condition (very minor wear/furring at edges – no other marks, creases or blemishes) The liner (although old looking/slightly ‘browned’) is plastic lined and as such I could not say if it is the original.
The vinyl is in very good condition (a few extremely fine surface marks)
And the central spigot hole shows some minor spigot marks (see ‘Label’ picture).
