Description
David Bowie - Tin Machine. Original 1989 UK pressing, bought on the day of release, signed by guitarist Reeves Gabrels. This is the version with the white inner sleeve, not the orange.
I got it signed at the Tin Machine gig at Liverpool Royal Court theatre in 1991. I'd spent a lot of my teenage years waiting by that stage door trying to meet my musical heroes. That particular day there was quite a crowd. Reeves ambled up in a Bogart style coat, hardly anyone moved towards him, but did and I got him to autograph this album. Half an hour later a phalanx of security guards burst out and cordoned off the far end of the building, shortly before a minibus screamed round the corner to an entrance I'd never seen used before or since. That was, we assumed, the other three arriving.
Tin Machine were absolutely brilliant that night. Hard, loud, expansive, uncompromising. Bowie was such a god of the stage, able to pull an audience around to any place and state he wanted them to go in. Unforgettable.
But now I'm moving house to place that really can't take all the vinyl that I hardly ever play any more anyway, so even this one is up for auction.
