David Munrow & the Early Music Consort EMI original linen finish Box set of 2Lps + 96 page large Coffee table type Book: Instruments of the Middle Ages & Renaissance. ED1 labels to this, Uk press with the insert and the book is spotless also.
Fascinating collection of short works played on their correct instruments, instantly teaching you the difference in sound between the conical chanter bagpipes of medieval times and the cylindrical chanter sound (for one random example), by having two tunes next to each other on the two types. To quote the rave review: "Most of us know of lutes and guitars, with perhaps chitarrones and theorboes as well, but what of the mandora the orpharion and the vihuela ?" Hogwood plays the keyboard parts.
Loads of beautiful music, and that full size book also bringing the instruments to life with the illustrations and background info to them. Having one of these in my own collection has really enriched the experience of early music for me.
Recommended, but take it one side per listening session, as there is almost an overwhelming amount of music to absorb!.
No playback issues, on my moving coil a full near mint.
This set is clean Near Mint with good sheen , has clean labels, and is not warped. Box is Near Mint.
