Includes liner notes by Gary Smith. DEATH TO THE PIXIES is 4 10" set, featuring the band's singles and a previously unreleased live European performance. The Pixies have rightfully earned a place among pioneering indie rock gods with an approach typified by monstrous guitars and hyena-like screaming, with enough adrenaline to kill a "Caribou." At the same time, the Pixies knew how to employ sweet pop progressions and lush effects for a gentler sound. While the band's career spanned only the late 1980s to early '90s, DEATH TO THE PIXIES displays the breadth of their music, filled with anguish, frustration and poignancy. The second disc offers an insight as to what Pixies' live performances were like at the group's prime. Joey Santiago's guitar screams, Black Francis's vocals are desperate but cool, moving back and forth between Spanish and English, while Kim Deal's background vocals add warmth to the songs. DEATH TO THE PIXIES will appeal to both the neophyte and the dedicated fan who owns every Pixies seven-inch.
