Decca SXL 2302, Handel Water Music and Royal Fireworks Music, Georg Szell, London Symphony. This is the Speakers Corner reissue, pressed on 180 gram virgin vinyl and cut from the original master tapes. It is one of the most critically acclaimed of all the early Decca LP’s and is rated 19 out of 20 by Moon and Gray. Recorded in Watford Town Hall in 1961 by the legendary Kenneth Wilkinson, this is an exciting performance with a brilliant and warm sound. The Speakers Corner reissue is dazzling, with extended highs and very powerful mid and low bass. This copy is virtually perfect – I purchased it sealed in the early 80’s, and have played it only twice. The vinyl surfaces are clean, glossy, and exceptionally quiet with NO pops, clicks, tics, or skips - it is perfectly quiet. There are NO marks, and the vinyl looks and plays MINT. The labels also look new, as does the jacket. There is only a very slight corner ding on the upper left corner (see photos). In summary, this is a NM copy of this wonderful audiophile reissue.
