Deep Purple:  Sonic Zoom, unofficial live vinyl album from the 70’s

Single album version of the famous Space Vol One & Two double album,

Recording attributed to Auchen in Germany 11th July 1970, where legend has it that a VW van with mobile recording studio in it was driven under the stage mixing the sound direct. Overall a good audio recording with overloaded vocals at time, for that original 1970’s feel!

These original 1970’s albums are becoming increasingly collectable.

When originally bought (pre loved) in the early 80’,was played once (as I had other versions form this gig)  then filed away on a shelf…only to now surface.

Outer sleeve in very good condition, heavy card, original shrink wrap cover, stuck down title insert, sharp corners, split in the top edge of the sleeve, barely noticeable and contained within the intact shrinkwrap..just age really. 

Visual inspection reveals disc has obviously been played a fair bit over its life, even though ‘retired’ these last 30 odd years.

No heavy or apparent deep scratches, hairlines only and slightly grubby labels condition. Minor spindle spider tracks.

Overall I’d visually rate it as VG (-) to be on the safe side.

I aim to use recycled packaging when possible, but rest assure that your vinyl will be well packed and protected against the trials of postal travel!

A few words about the vinyl grading.

I try to be as honest as possible, but all grades are based upon an experienced but ultimately subjective visual inspection, trying to identify and highlight obvious issues.

Back in the day whilst my Dad purchased much of the vinyl new, as he expanded his collection , (eventually running into a few thousand discs) hence many only played once, inevitably he was drawn to second hand (pre-loved) copies of certain discs, including the rarer original 1970’s issue boots.

As you will appreciate, otherwise you wouldn’t be reading this or looking at the listing, the nature of many of these live/unofficial recordings meant that original production standards were not necessarily a top priority, with occasional mastering/pressing faults occurring.

Similarly with any second hand vinyl which in some cases is almost 50 years old they will potentially exhibit aural signs of having been played, sometimes a fair bit..these are not mint, new unplayed discs (unless stated).

The attraction for my Dad was either obtaining the different variations of an issue or otherwise unavailable rare recordings…its called collecting!

When playing vinyl my Dad had a Technics SL1800 turntable with Ortfon cartridge, so no thrashing and grinding on an old  fidelity UA4! (early 70’s starter bedroom lo-fi, crank it up ?).
