Description
Prestige International Documentary Series 25005, "Deep South: Sacred and Sinful" from 1964. This is the trident-label pressing. Vinyl plays at NM with virtually no background sound. Jacket is in remarkably good condition for this series, where the covers are usually trashed. This one has no ringwear or rubwear on the seams and only negligible corner wear, but there are about 5" (12 cm) of cracking of the low-budget paper seam at upper left which could be repaired with glue; there is a label at lower right on back that says "Southern Journey"; the jacket is otherwise extremely clean with no bends. Artists include Vera Hall, Bessie Jones, Miles Pratcher, Ed Lewis & Johnnie Lee Moore, Joe Armstrong, Mississippi Fred McDowell, Roland Hayes, James Shorty, Denise & Mattie Gardner, the Silver Leaf Quartet, and the Bright Light Quartet. Many of these artists are obscure, but these are field recordings from Alan Lomax and Shirley Collins' well-known tour of the South in 1959-60. Shipping is $4.00 media mail, $10.00 priority mail within the continental U.S.; $16.00 regular airmail to the U.K., Europe, Japan, Korea, Australia, and New Zealand. Additional single LPs in a single package are $1.00 additional within U.S. and Canada, $3.00 overseas. For overseas shipments, registered mail is strongly recommended at $14.50 extra. Many old records are practically antiques and should be treated that way. This LP will be packaged with the record inside an inner sleeve but outside the jacket; both are placed inside a sealed outer sleeve and shipped inside a special oversized handcrafted mailer with padding on all sides. It is designed thick enough not to be bent in transit and strong enough to withstand a drop from a second-story window. More than two LPs together may be mailed inside a heavy Bags Unlimited pizza-style box. Your LP should arrive in the same condition as on the day it was shipped. All used LPs are play-graded on a VPI turntable with Audioquest tonearm and Grado cartridge.
