Background Information

I am currently in the process of shifting a vast collection of stock which largely derives from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s.  The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s.  There are large quantities of Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul and Modern Classical. Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously UNPLAYED. The bulk of what I’m currently selling comes from this source and I’d guess it will be years before I exhaust it!

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK Original U.K. 1971 Plum & Orange label ATLANTIC STEREO gatefold sleeve pressing of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends ‘Motel Shot’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Atlantic Super 2400 119).  The labels and sleeve list consistent catalogue information and this is a period, flat label Polydor pressing (to be expected).  I don’t believe this has seen heavy play however, under an intense light I do note a reasonable volume of ‘wispy’ hairline scratches but there are no marks of substance (which can be seen in normal daylight or felt etc.).  I should note that I believe the ‘wispy’ hairline marks are a result of withdrawal of the record from the poly-lined inner and large sections of the playing surface are mark-free.  The vinyl is graded as a solid EXCELLENT.  The sleeve has barely been handled and has spent its whole life in a polythene sleeve.  It looks like it was pressed yesterday not over 40 years ago!  The print is very vivid and there has been no loss of print whatsoever.  The colour of the sleeve is very forgiving and I struggle to discern any creases except along the spine where this has sat in the rack.  Each of the corners has received a light knock and the bottom right-hand corner displays a little wear.  I note a little fraying to the opening edge of the gatefold sleeve but this isn’t due to handling but because it extrudes slightly beyond the edge of the front of the sleeve.  There is a pencil line measuring 4cms on the inside of the gatefold sleeve, near the opening edge but this could be removed with ease.  The sleeve is a confident EXCELLENT+ grade and very close to a near mint grade.  It looks stunning!

Final Remarks

Although this copy has seen some play unlike most of the items from this source it is still a superior copy.  A great overall example!  Please check my other auctions for a further Plum and Orange Atlantic Delaney & Bonnie L.P., a STAX single and other R&B and Soul collectables from the same source in similarly immaculate condition!  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!
