Background Information

I am currently in the process of shifting a vast collection of stock which largely derives from a Record Shop which closed its doors in the early 1980s.  The stock spans a period from the early 1960s through to the early 80s with the bulk dating from the 1970s.  There are large quantities of Progressive Rock, R & B and Soul and Modern Classical. Most of the items have sustained a single play (clearly standard practice to check for flaws upon receipt of new records back-in-the-day) however, some are obviously UNPLAYED. The bulk of what I’m currently selling comes from this source and I’d guess it will be years before I exhaust it!

UNSOLD SHOP STOCK Original U.K. 1970 Plum & Orange label ATLANTIC STEREO gatefold sleeve pressing of Delaney & Bonnie & Friends ‘To Bonnie From Delaney’ L.P. (Catalogue Reference: Atlantic/ATCO Super 2400029).  Now the gatefold sleeve lists this as ‘Atco Super 2400 029’ and you’d expect it to contain a yellow and white label Atco pressing however, the sleeve contains a plum and orange Atlantic pressing which lists the catalogue reference as ‘2400029’.  I don’t know for certain but I’d guess that all the early pressings look like this. This is a period, flat label Polydor pressing.  I’d think there is a fair chance that this copy has never been played.  I believe itis UNPLAYED.  Under an intense light I can perhaps see a handful of hairline scratches across both playing surfaces.  This is a simply stunning copy and the vinyl is graded as being in NEAR MINT condition. As noted above this features a gatefold sleeve which is thin and flimsy.  Polydor sleeves from this period don’t survive particularly well because they’re flimsy and un-laminated but having spent its entire life inside a polythene sleeve this is a pretty exceptional example.  The print is as vivid as the day this was pressed and there has been no loss of print as a result of rubbing or ring-wear.  I note a light crease to the top left-hand corner which is unusually only visible on the inside of the gatefold sleeve.  There are a couple of creases to the spine where this has sat in a rack.  I note a little wear to each corner (with the most pronounced to the top right-hand corner on the front of the sleeve) and the bottom left-hand corner has received a knock.  There are no other flaws to mention.  The sleeve is confidently graded as being in EXCELLENT+ condition.  The super condition really shows off the great artwork to its best (particularly the inner gatefold an image of which I have included above).  Super!

Final Remarks

This is essentially a NEW copy whose sleeve displays the most minimal amount of wear.  You’d never find a better copy!  Simply stunning!  Please check my other auctions for a further Plum and Orange Atlantic Delaney & Bonnie L.P., a STAX single and other R&B and Soul collectables from the same source in similarly immaculate condition!  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!
