Description
Titles - "I'm Still A Fool Over You" and "Mary Lou". (Actually Hello, Mary Lou, Goodbye Heart). This is a 78rpm, 12-inch record. A very knowledgeable collector would be able to deduce from the photos, what we have here. However, as I have had to piece together the information, I'll tell you all that I can, even if some of what I say seems obvious!
In the sixties, some record shops or music shops had a little recording facility out-the-back, where people who cared to pay, could have themselves recorded. Not uncommon, for an un-recorded group to want to know what they would sound like on record, or to cut a record to play to whoever they wanted to impress, e.g. record labels, or just their relatives! I have seen one of these before - it's a metal disc with a layer of lacquer (or whatever) on both sides. The group play a song, and the machinery records onto / cuts the disc. There is just the one record made. There is just such a disc of the early Beatles.
This record shows a nice shine, and little damage. I have played it - on my Dansette type record player, as my hi-fi doesn't do 78 rpm speed. The music can be heard clearly, there are clicks and pops, but not continuous noise. I don't know the first song, we hear a singer and one or two guitars, possibly an acoustic and an electric. Other side is a nice version of "Hello, Mary Lou", with more instruments playing. Vocalists are male. They sound quite a professional standard of music group.
Internet research shows that there was a popular Scottish group of this name, based around Perth, in 1963. As "Hello Mary Lou" was a hit in 1962, this record would not have been recorded before that year. It seems likely that it's that "Cyclones" group.
If anyone has knowledge of this group / performance, please do let me know, and I'll add the info to the listing.
