Pressco 101/102 by Prophet & His Disciples: The Pusher pt I & II. Rare Detroit funk 45, with the original 1st pressing title: The Pusher. Dave Hamilton and Clifford Coulter let loose with the one of the craziest, wildest, and most glorious FUNK platters ever!!!!...Pushin a positive social message!
When this 45 does turn up, which is not often, the title is almost always You Fool You Fool, which is a repeating verse in the song. The original title The Pusher has obvious drug connotations, and could have been misconstrued as promoting drug use, when in reality, this is really a mocking, scorching anti-drug song.
The Pusher title was probably quickly replaced with the more neutral DJ/consumer friendly title "You Fool You Fool". That would make The Pusher title the true first pressing of this 45, with You Fool actually the second press.
Dave Hamilton and Clarence Coulter produced, Clarence Coulter wrote it. What an over the top Detroit funk 45! All the musical parts sound like they were recorded close up, at maximum volume, just short of distortion. This 45 projects so much energy, the music just leaps out of the speakers. Screaming vocals, stinging wah wah guitar, strong drum work, pulsating rhythm, pure Detroitness. Psychedelic echo effects on the B side including the line: "you'll be dead, dead, dead, dead", echoing off into oblivion. Listen to the clips, it'll put a smile on your face. Although the clips pale in sound comparison to the sound of this record blaring forth from your turntable at high volume.
The vinyl is quite glossy, but has lots of scuffs, hairlines, light scratches, brush marks. This record still plays like the champion it is. Most would agree this is one of the truly great Detroit funk 45s, and no one will ever make raw records like this again. The time has passed. Only the vinyl artifact remains. Grade glossy VG-.
