Description
This is tenor saxophonist Dewey Redman’s second recording as a leader for the French BYG label, and it’s still hard to understand why he remains so underrated and uncelebrated. He has a glorious raw large tone and his playing manages to effortlessly straddle the boundary between avant-garde and swing. He can sound impressive and totally at home in either sphere: he recorded 12 albums as part of Keith Jarrett’s American quartet, but this trio LP dates from earlier when he was regularly playing with Ornette Coleman, (who he went to school with in Texas!).
This is the 1979 UK release of this 1969 recording, and the LP has some brilliantly detailed liner notes, which will teach you everything about Redman and his music. More importantly, the vinyl is in excellent condition, and probably benefits from my wife not being a Redman fan (so it hasn’t been played a lot!). The sleeve is in very good condition, with just some ghosting of the LP shape and very gentle wear on corners.
