THE RUFFATTI ORGAN Built in Padua, Italy, and delivered to America in two mas- sive shipments, the new 117-rank Ruffatti organ features some of the most unique innovations in organ-building today. Speci- fications and plans for the organ were drawn up by organist, Diane Bish, and organ-builder, Pierro Ruffatti. Largest pipe organ in the South and largest European-build organ in the United States, the Ruffatti involves several distinct divisions: Great, Choir, Swell, Positiv, Trompeteria, Antiphonal and Pedal. These divisions are controlled from a five-mannual console in the chancel and a one-manual console in the rear balcony for the carillon and antiphonal organ. Four sets of “en chamade” (horizontal) trumpets highlight the installation, including an 8-foot Italian-Spanish trumpet and a 16-foot and 4-foot trumpets on the main organ. From the Antiphonal Division, a large 8-foot English State Trumpet is used for festive fanfares and in solo against the full organ. Unlike most American organs, the nearly 7,000 pipes of the Ruffatti are housed in an “organ case” to create an effect of visual beauty as well as to enhance the sound. This case-work is white with gold-leaf trim, accenting the silver pipework. Crowning the top of the organ on the Positive Division is a cymbelstem in the shape of a gold star. Standing in the facade on both sides of the organ case stand pipes in the-shape of fountains which symbolize Christ as the fountain of life. The total organ is an endeavor to “let every- thing that hath breath PRAISE THE LORD.” THE ARTIST Organist Diane Bish has displayed her dazzling virtuosity and unique showmanship across both the United States and Europe. Critics on both continents have termed Miss Bish’s playing as “stunning, virtuoso, fiery and astonishing. ” The rare talent of Diane Bish was evident at a young age where as a student of Mildred Andrews at the University of Oklahoma she was the winner in National Competitions in both organ and composition. Further recognition of her superior ability came to her as a Fulbright Scholar studying with Gustav Leon- hardt at the Amsterdam Conservatory and later as a Foundation Des Etats-Unis Scholar in Paris with the artist-teacher, Marie Claire Alain. As a CONCERT ORGANIST Miss Bish makes yearly national and international concert tours which have taken her to the greatest organs of the world, including memorable performances at Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, and St. Bavo Cathedral, Haar- lem, Holland. She has been featured on radio and TV specials in both the United States and Europe, and has performed with numerous symphony orchestras. Diane Bish is the First Person to play in live performance the organ and aynthesizer simultaneously. By placing the synthe- sizer on the music rack of the organ and playing the two in- struments together, Miss Bish has brought a new and fascinating facet to organ performance. As a COMPOSER, Diane Bish has written for solo organ, choir, duo-piano, chamber ensemble, organ and orchestra, organ and narrator, and organ and synthesizer. Her works are published by Belwin Mills, Beckenhorst Press, Hinshaw Music Company, Gentry Publications and Hope Publishing. Diane Bish appears on nationwide television every week as SENIOR ORGANIST of the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where she plays the largest European Built instrument in the United States, a 117 rank Ruffatti Pipe Organ made in Padua, Italy. Diane Bish is the AUTHOR of the book Church Music Ex- plosion and innovator of the same nationwide program of concerts and workshops to improve and inspire excellent music in Americas churches. As a RECORDING ARTIST, Miss Bish has made 12 recordings of traditional organ classics as well as recordings of her own hymn improvisations and major organ works. She has recorded on outstanding instruments in both Europe and the United States and her recordings are featured on classical radio stations in this country and the BBC in the United Kingdom.
