Up for auction is a pretty interesting and certainly rare artifact from Bay Area musical history - I don't have all the answers for this one so I'll tell you what I know. This 7" is an acetate (I believe, there is a small portion of the aluminum visible on the outer non-playable edge of the record) for an unknown artist. I don't know if this was ever released officially but the (we'll call it the...) a-side has a vocal and instrumental version of Swanee River. The singer is male and it's done in a easy listening, lounge singer style vibe. The b-side also has a vocal and instrumental version of the song "Birth of Blues" by Ray Henderson (often sung by the Rat Pack, apparently). As far as identifying the artist the center labels give 2 clues - the initials DB and each side has 2 tracks listed, one the "Dick" track and one illegible. So my best guess is this singer is one Dick B. The record also has a date on both sides - 8/17/68 - presumably when this 45 was recorded.
This particular record is of note to the Bay Area as Dick Vance studios was a Bay Area recording studio that also pressed their own records just off Grand Ave near the lake. They had an in-house gospel imprint but recorded as I understand it a pretty broad range of music like surf rock and the self-titled release from psych-folk group Migrant Family. A must have for Bay Area music historians!
Acetate is in G+ condition, plays thru clean but with consistent moderate surface noise. Sleeve is generic. Record is shipped promptly and safely sandwiched between 2 cardboard squares. Please write with any further questions, and bid with confidence! Thanks for looking.
