Description
This is the first Dire Straits album on Vertigo 9102 021 and it is hand signed on the rear cover by Mark Knopfler, John Illsley and Pick Withers. (Please see the images).
Knopfler has signed it "John, Very best to you Mark Knopfler", Illsley has signed it "To John, Best Wishes from John Illsley" and Pick Withers has signed "Best wishes to John - Pick Withers".
Therefore this would make an ideal Xmas present - to someone called John!
Please note that I am not a dealer or a record collector. The items I am selling are all from the extensive collection of my late brother.
He was a great music and radio enthusiast, working for both BBC and commercial radio stations in the East Midlands from 1980 until 2013 presenting various music shows, mostly folk and rock.
He obtained these signatures when he interviewed Dire Straits before their gig at Derby Assembly Rooms on their 'On Location Tour' on 16th December 1980, where they were promoting the newly-released 'Making Movies' album. I can confirm this as a) I was with my brother at the gig and b) I also have the 'Making Movies' album signed by the same three members at the time.
During this period he interviewed many bands and artists in Nottingham, Derby and Leicester and usually had them sign copies of the albums they were promoting at the time. He was also sent many promotional, DJ-only and white-label pressings direct from the record companies.
The cover is in good/very good condition with all three signatures very clear. The inner sleeve is in very good condition with no marks. The vinyl is looks fine with no obvious marks or scratches, but it has obviously been played. I will play safe and rate it as 'good'. There is a note on the label of "5.15" above 'Water of Love' - obviously my brother made a note of the track length to play it on the radio. The groove says 1 - 4 -42004 on one side and 2 - 6 - E420 on the B side.
Sadly my brother passed away in November 2013, so I am slowly disposing of his extensive record collection. He had no family of his own, so according to his wishes we have opened a trust account to help his nephew and two nieces through university, and the proceeds from these sales will be paid into that account.
I will be listing quite a few similar items over the coming months, as there are original signed albums by artists ranging from The Ramones to Bryan Ferry and Sandy Denny, plus some rarities and DJ-only promotional copies.
All vinyl will be sent in special secure mailers with stiffeners.
