A superb original 1980 UK pressing of Dire Straits – Making Movies, featuring the handwritten signatures of Mark Knopfler and John Illsley on the original red printed lyric inner sleeve.

Both signatures are executed in bold black marker and display beautifully against the distinctive red artwork.

The signed inner sleeve is accompanied by a Letter of Authenticity from respected autograph specialist Garry King, dated 21 July 2026.

The certificate confirms that both signatures have been examined and compared against known authentic examples. In the authenticator's professional opinion, they are genuine handwritten signatures rather than machine-produced reproductions, printed signatures or facsimiles.

The certificate also includes a photograph of the signed item, directly linking the documentation to this particular copy.

Importantly, these are signatures on the original album inner sleeve, not a separate autograph card or subsequently added photograph.

Released in 1980, Making Movies represents a significant period in Dire Straits' development, with Mark Knopfler's increasingly cinematic songwriting taking centre stage.

Produced by Jimmy Iovine and Mark Knopfler, the album contains some of the band's most celebrated recordings, including Tunnel Of Love, Romeo And Juliet, Skateaway and Solid Rock.

The record itself remains in Excellent condition, making this both an attractive listening copy and a distinctive piece of authenticated Dire Straits memorabilia.

Sleeve: VG+

The original outer sleeve remains in very good collector condition, displaying age-related storage and handling wear consistent with its age.

There is some light edge and corner wear, but the sleeve remains structurally sound and presents well overall.

The distinctive red and blue artwork remains strong and attractive.

Original Signed Inner Sleeve

The original printed lyric inner sleeve is present and has been hand-signed by:

Mark Knopfler – Lead Vocals & Guitar
John Illsley – Bass Guitar

Both autographs are executed in black marker on the red side of the inner sleeve.

The signatures are prominent, well-positioned and display exceptionally well against the original artwork.

The inner sleeve shows some age-related handling and minor edge creasing, consistent with the accompanying authentication description.

The reverse retains the original printed lyrics and album information.

The signed inner sleeve will be protected separately during shipping to help preserve the autographs.

Vinyl: EX

The original vinyl retains an excellent deep gloss with only minimal signs of previous handling or play.

Any visible surface marks are light and superficial, consistent with the EX grade.

The original orange Vertigo labels remain well presented, and the UK matrix information is clearly present in the runouts.
