This is a superb boxed set of 4 direct-to-disc LP's of Bernard Roberts, playing 8 of Beethoven's piano sonatas. It is volume 2 of the set, and includes the best known "Moonlight", "Pastoral" and "Pathetique" sonatas. The box corners have some slight storage roughnThese recordings were made at 'NIMBUS' recording studios in Monmouth, where many of the World's best have recorded. For anybody not familiar with 'direct-to-disc' recordings, it is the recording process whereby they do not use multi-track master tape, and then edit out mistakes. The performance is recorded 'live' from the microphones, via the cutting lathe, directly to the master disc. Between tracks, performers have to stay at the mic. and then record the next track(s). Mistakes are either caught on the disc, or if too bad the disc is scrap. There are few musicians capable of performing to the high standard required for direct-to-disc recording. Final sound quality is, however, superb,and if you have never heard a direct cut record, it will blow you away. (Please don't play them on your old Dansette auto-change.) Look out for my other direct cut LP's listed. I have a pile of 'ordinary' LP's to get rid of as well---too many to list.
25 years ago, I moved house and dismantled my hi-fi system. One thing led to another and I never got round to re-connecting the equipment, so it, and these LP's have sat on the shelf unused since 1997. The time has come to recognize I will no longer play these records, and need to move it on.
