Dizzy Gillespie Sext UNRELEASED Reel Tape Groovin’ High
These are the types of finds that make estate lots so exciting. Among the box lots from a former Smithsonian musicologist was a box of 7” jazz reel tapes from a variety of 20th century greats. One of these was the The Dizzy Gillespie Sextet’s recording “Groovin’ High” and has the original splicing intact. It was recorded on Ampex 600 Series Professional tape and includes the original box with the markings.
According to the notation on the box, this was “Recorded for Guild label but never issued.” It’s dated 2/9/45 and lists the Dizzy Gillespie Sextet as “Dizzy Gillespie (tpt), Dexter Gordon (tenor sax), Frank Paparelli (p), Chuck Wayne (gtr.), Murray Shipinski (b), and Irv Kluger (dms).”
There is also a hand-written note that says, “Jack Towers 2nd cut is my full track filtered version, Jerry.”
Protective packaging and USA shipping will be a flat $10 for UPS delivery including online tracking and full insurance for the value of the winning bid. Please see my other auctions, as I’ve also listed an unreleased reel tape of the Al Hirt Sextet playing with The Navy Swings, and would be glad to combine shipping if the same bidder wins both auctions.
The winning bidder is asked to please confirm within three days, and pay within six days with PayPal, a money order or a personal check (I trust you.) I offer free insurance on all items selling for more than $50.00, and buyers are welcome to insure less-expensive items for an additional $1.30 (unless it is specifically stated as a UPS package, which is insured automatically.)
