Description

This auction is for an 1960 Columbia Stereo pressing of Mozart's Don Giovanni. Featuring Carlo Maria Guilini conducting the Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus. Including the talents of Eberdhard Wachter, Joan Sutherland, Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, Luigi Alva, Gottlob Frick, Giuseppe Taddei, Piero Cappuccilli and Graziella Sciutti. This is the scarcer Stereo pressing SAX2369 - 72 and features a stereo sticker on the box and Stereophonic Silver / Turquoise labels. I have graded the set of four records as VG as the First record has a couple of marks to the paying surface albeit light ones. The first side has a short scuff of about 1cm and the second side slightly longer hairline at 2.5. I did listen to this record as this is a rare set and it played nicely without distortion. Records 2 and 3 look in excellent condition with no marks and a nice clean bright sheen. Record 4 (sides 6/7) has a couple of hairlines to the run off groove of side 7. The marks are feint but do extend to the end of that side (2 cm's),thankfully again they don't seem to be audible. All 4 LP's are housed in their original plastic lined company sleeves and the box contains a Cast insert and accompanying booklet. The box textured heavy duty box is front laminated with a Stereo sticker on the front. Structurally the box is still sturdy and in VG condition just some light rubbing to the bottom corner. Inside there is a small number written in pen (see photo) the box also includes some cardboard stiffeners and some tissue paper guards. All in all a pretty good set of of this sought after Stereo pressing. I have includes worldwide postage at the cheapest prices available, though I would recommend the tracked option.
