Donald Byrd Blackjack. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Media Mail. IDEALLY-although there have been many notable exceptions-jazz recordings have particular strenght if they're made by a group that has been together for a period of time and has gotten into the material before they came to the studio. In this instance, for example, Donald Byrd heads a combo with which he had been working at the Five Spot in New York at the end of 1966. The sessions were made toward the close of that gig. Moreover, the choice of tunes represents a collective decision by the band. They chose what they most liked in the book. And that's wby this session is so together-musically and in spirit. The personnel that make up the group are; Donald Byrd- trumpet, Sonny Reed-alto sax, Hank Mobley-ttenor sax, Cedar Walton- piano, Walter Booker-bass, and Billy Higgins-drums. The selections include; Blackjack, West Of The Pecos, Loki, Eldorado, Beale Street, and Pentatonic. The record is in near mint condition and the cover is very good plus. (See photos).
