Description
"Watkins At Large" by Doug Watkins, Hank Mobley, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Duke Jordan, Arthur Taylor, 12" black vinyl LP released ca. 1956 by Transition Records, record number TRLP-20. Based on my research, this appears to be the original US pressing.
Vinyl: Both sides are VG-. I should first point out that there are no skips, and no "static" type noise. Large stretches of it play quite cleanly, but there are frequent tics throughout. A proper cleaning may eliminate some of this. There are several visible scratches on each side, which cause obvious pops that I noticed early in track one and late in track two on side one, and then both early and late in track one on side two. Not as noisy as what I would consider G, but has enough issues to not be VG, so I'm calling it VG-.
Jacket: G, Someone has taken a razor blade and peeled off the "Transition 20" logo from the front, but there is not a hole in the jacket (see additional photos), top seam is partially split on both the left and right side (about four inches near the center are not split), the spine is completely split, the bottom seam is pretty solid, only has about a 1/2" split at the opening. The "album notes inside" sticker is on the back, but the actual album notes booklet is missing. The corners are actually pretty square. If the background was originally pure white, it has yellowed with age.
