GROUP / RECORD Dr. Strangely Strange • Heavy Petting
Vertigo Swirl Label Stereo Original 1st pressing 1970 UK LABEL / LABELCODE MATRIX NUMBERS EXTRAS GRADING Vertigo 6360 009 AA6360009 1Y & 2Y Unlaminated Gimmick Cover VG+(+)/EX DESCRIPTION The band was formed by a group of Irish students who were on the fringes of Dublin's rock and folk club scene during the end of the 60s. In 1970 the group released their second album on Vertigo. On "Heavy Petting" the band's sound had progressed. The early songs on the album still have that whimsical, slightly surreal ISB-inspired sound but as the album progresses it introduces Celtic pipes and a driving folk rock edge. Interestingly this mixture of strummed acoustics and electrics with harmonising vocals sounds. The 18 year old Gary Moore shows a marvellous guitar work with searing folk-rock lead soloing. CONDITIONS RECORD: Visually both sides with only a few surface marks/scratches with little sheen, seen in critical 100W light! Has been well played and must be therefor grade as VERY GOOD+(+) or better!! Both sides of this great album play with some clicks and pops (especially on side 1, song 2 - thanks to Gary Moore its not really remarkable!). On side 2 there is also a nonaudible (!) superficial scratch. The sound quality of this classic vintage pressing-thick, heavyweight press is still full!! LABELS: Both labels in EXCELLENT condition with only minimal spindle marks. COVER: The funny gimmick cover with some edgewear and slightest creases. Apart from a bit of seam wear, nothing else. No tape. No splits. No writings, no stamps, no stickers. All the flaps with only one or two very very tiny creases (almost non visible!) are fully intact!! No ring wear - also on the unlaminated rear!! This still wonderful cover must be grade EXCELLENT! SUMMARY
This excellent album with its spectacular cover art is still a jewel and a must for every serious collection!!!
