Description
Dr. STRANGELY STRANGE Kip of The Serenes Rare LP ILPS 9106 on First issue PINK ISLAND Label UK pressing with MATRIX 1A and 1B Dr. Strangely Strange were an experimental Irish folk group, formed in Dublin in 1967 by Tim Booth (vocals and guitar) and Ivan Pawle bass and keyboards). Soon they teamed with multi-instrumentalist Tim Goulding (vocals and keyboards) , an aspiring painter, and began living and rehearsing in a house owned by Goulding's girlfriend, backing vocalist Orphan Annie, which was nicknamed 'The Orphanage'. After signing with the Incredible String Band's producer and manager Joe Boyd, they debuted in 1969 with this LP Kip of the Serenes. The album was produced by Joe Boyd. While on tour with Fotheringay, they enlisted drummer Neil Hopwood, and later in the year appeared on the Incredible String Band's Changing Horses album. As this is a pretty rare album on a collectible label and is musically superb -I will try and describe its condition as fully as possible SLEEVE . Front sleeve (see photo) VG - has mild rim wear and faint creasing towards the opening edge . The edges have been a little worn and rubbed more so on thespine and lower edge. These sleeves were a matt finish and a little more fragile than the laminated sleeves from that era . Colour is excellent with no fading . BACK Sleeve ( see photo) again very slight ring wear and a little rubbing - slightly more notiicable towards the lower edge in the black credit panel. In the top left corner if you look closely there is a small inscription in blue biro (Jan/ March 1971 -) I am told by the previous owner this was when it was bought from new from a local record shop having languished in the racks since its issue in 1969 - apparently everyone was more interested in Sabbath / Zeppelin and Heavy Rock at that time - I have owned this copy for some 20 years . LABEL - is in excellent condition with just barely noticible wear next to spindle hole on SIDE ONE VINYL is a very strong VG on SIDE ONE there are a couple of faint surface marks and the usual very faint hairlines caused by taking the disc in and out of the inner sleeve. DISC plays (on my deck-Goldring Lencko) just less than excellent with a few faint pops and barely audible clicks but there is no surface noise . On SIDE TWO Again there are a couple of faint marks - on Track 3 Ship of fools - This cause a faint audible click for about 6 revoloutions but otherwise disc is very close to Excellent Sound Quality - This is a record I have played and cherished for many years - It is of course some 40 years old and its condition reflects that - So VERY GOOD but pretty close to EXCELLENT if that makes sense...
