Description
Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra - "Frankie and Johnny" / Beltone Recording Corp., NYC, ca. 1947 / Cornell University concert, April 19, 1947 / 10", 33 rpm, acetate / VG
From the collection of jazz historian Marshall W. Stearns (1908-1966, author of "Jazz Dance" & "The Story of Jazz"). A privately produced acetate of "Frankie and Johnny" from the April 19, 1947 concert at Cornell. Same cut on both sides. Unclear if Stearns recorded this from a radio broadcast or some other source. Mild to moderate crackle in play, but music remains clear and the recording was fairly decent. Ellington's concert at Cornell from the 30th has been released, but this piece from his earlier gig on the 19th has, it would seem, not yet been published.
