LOT029: WHITE LABEL: TEST PRESSING. It’s taken a little detective work to find out what this is. It’s a white label with “Dusty Springfield” written on one side, nothing on the other. UAST-18635 is etched into the runoff but that doesn’t reveal anything on internet searches, nor do the codes R-2067 and R-2068 etched into the run-off.
A lyric search does the job – this is a test pressing of United Artists Xw-1006 – the 1977 single “Let Me Love You Once Before You Go / I’m Your Child”. Not exactly her finest moment but nonetheless, as a test pressing probably rarer than rocking-horse-sh!t. It’s pretty scratched and pretty crackly. Visually G- but the sound isn’t even as good as that – it’s a test pressing so presumably it was never intended to be played more than a couple of times. It may even be that the version that was finally released wasn’t this one… I don’t know. The quality is not good and the point of a test press is to identify where the pressing isn’t coming out properly. In any case it’s probably the only one in the world.

About me:
The records being sold were all bought at auctions in London and the South East in 2006 / 2007, or on ebay. The original idea was to sell commercially but in the end, life circumstances didn’t permit and they went into storage. In an effort to reduce my outgoings I have now closed my storage and am selling everything. I am away from where these are right now (they’re in England, I’m not). They will be posted out, postage will be charged at cost price.
First class recorded (UK only) is either £1.85 or £2.15 depending on weight.
Special delivery is either (UK only) is either £5.90 or £6.35 depending on weight.
EU & USA delivery is going to be between £7.85 and £8.55, more for Airsure.
Except where explicitly stated, lots have been graded visually only.
Where you see lots of photos it’s because I took lots of photos and thought I might as well include them – you might be able to see something I missed. Click to zoom. Some of them I also took samples of them playing on my record player – so you can hear a bit of them too.
Usually when sampling I sample 15 seconds, pause the sample (not the record) and drop the needle elsewhere, possibly on the other side. So where you hear the record skip it’s because I am pausing the recorder, moving the needle, lowering it and then unpausing. You will also hear the record skip between sides which is not physically possible without pausing first.
