Description
Original E. Berliner 7 inch flat disc record, number 0763. The song is The Girl I loved in Sunny Tennessee. The record has the date of 11/22/99 scratched on the patent line. This probably refers to the recording date for the record. It is sung by noted tenor Albert Campbell who recorded for a number of the emerging gramophone companies of the era. Emile Berliner patented his first gramophone in 1887, with additional patents through 1895. He was the first to use the flat disc rather than the cylinder made popular by Edison. Costly lawsuits regarding patent infringements by competitors led him to sell his company to Eldridge Johnson in 1901. This company continued making the Berliner gramophones under the Victor name. The early image of Nipper the dog with the company motto "His Master's Voice" shows the Berliner Gramophone. The Berliner company was only in business for ten years, but his flat disc design became the model for all later record players.
The record is untested. It does not show any cracks or warp. However, given its age its sound quality would probably be minimal.
