Description

Emerson, Lake & Palmer - TARKUS - Mobile Fidelity Original Master Recording (Heavy Vinyl Edition) MFSL1-203 - Factory Sealed - Absolutely Superb!

Been looking for one of these since the last great flood. Tell you why…especially if you are an audiophile who takes great pleasure in having a truly fine, full-range system that can go from the dregs of the earth in the bass department right on up into Heaven.

There is one cut on this album called TANK that, I do believe, has the highest velocity bass frequencies cut on any record I have ever heard. It's a double repeat of a percussion passage amid the solo that, if your system can do it, will quite literally blow out a match at 3 feet. (It assaults your whole being, slamming you not once, but twice in the chest.)

The regular release, in fact, does quite well in this regard. But the MoFi, well now, it's beyond belief, I kid you not. But, and I am being dead serious here, this album has the full potential to eat your hi-fi alive. PLEASE watch your levels here, especially on TANK.

FACT: I have seen TANK demolish a set of K-horns, fizz Decca ribbon tweeters, and have woofers and tweeters simply go out and never come back. This record is a beast, please trust me on that.

(If you are running a full-range system, without a separate sub-woofer and dedicated amp, do know that if your amplifier clips, your tweeters instead of seeing perhaps 1% of the input, will now see upwards of ten times that power. Should that occur, your voice coils will simply melt.)

This power-packed copy comes to you factory sealed, and will first see the light of day in your hands.

For other fine records, TAS picks and hard-to-finds, please see my complete list of offerings here on eBay.

My apologies. An Emerson, Lake and Palmer fan has pointed out my mistake here. TANK is indeed not on this album; instead, it is on their first album. Since this MoFi doesn't have contents listed on it anywhere, I simply misremembered what album contained TANK. I thought it this one. On this album release of TARKUS, Francois Couture has said the following: "Emerson, Lake & Palmer's 1970 eponymous LP was only a rehearsal. It hit hard because of the novelty of the act (allegedly the first supergroup in rock history), but felt more like a collection of individual efforts and ideas than a collective work. All doubts were dissipated by the release of Tarkus in 1971. Side one of the original LP is occupied by the 21-minute title epic track, beating both Genesis' "Supper's Ready" and Yes' "Close to the Edge" by a year. Unlike the latter group's cut-and-paste technique to obtain long suites, "Tarkus" is a thoroughly written, focused piece of music. It remains among the Top Ten classic tracks in progressive rock history." Sorry for the confusion. -hi-fiv

ps. Please note, the winner of this MoFi will also receive an original copy of Emerson, Lake & Palmer's first album, which is still in its shrink-wrap, the record near mint. I'm sure the winner would like to hear TANK, after all, and so it will be my pleasure to provide a copy, free of charge.
