Description
This is a rare, early Edison Diamond Disc record, No. 82019 "In Quelle Trine Morbide" from Puccini's Manon Lescaut sung by Maria Labia (matrix 726) and "Romanza Andaluza by Pablo de Sarasate, a violin solo by Isidore Moskowitz (matrix 1255). It comes in it's original presentation box in which the very earliest Edison discs were sold. The disc is in good condition with one edge chip that is not in the grooves. The box is complete although the sides are bowed or split on the folds somewhat. One of the two ties is present but not attached and shown in the photo of the interior.
These discs were made and sold in very limited numbers. This particular disc was removed from the catalogue in July 1913, before most dealers had even seen an Edison Disc machine. It is listed in the Edison Company's "Preliminary List of Edison Disc Records" released in May 1913. In today's parlance, they were beta software. The final photo is a scan of the cover of this catalogue (which is a reprint, and not included).
The Labia recording was later coupled as disc number 82038 but this was cut from the catalogue in May 1917. The Moskowitz performance was re-recorded as matrix 3100 and released as 80097 which remained in the catalogue until the end in 1929.
