Description

The brainchild of keyboardist/synthesist Craig Wuest, Earthstar was an electronic music group originally from Utica, New York.  Wuest was encouraged by electronic music artist, composer, and producer Klaus Schulze to relocate to Germany where Earthstar was signed by Sky Records.  French Skyline was Earthstar’s second album.  Schulze co-produced the album with Wuest.  He also provided technical advice and programmed the synthesizers. But Schulze's influence is much greater than that: he changed Earthstar's sound and his influence is greatly heard on this album.  Under Schulze's guidance Wuest and Earthstar created what some have called a "wall of sound": heavily multitracked and layered pieces so dense that it is often impossible to tell which instruments are playing. It's a rich, textural electronic sound that in many ways resembles Klaus Schulze's work more than other Earthstar albums, particularly on the two long pieces, "Latin Sirens Face the Wall" and "French Skyline Suite".  This made Earthstar the only American band that participated in Germany's Kosmische Musik/electronic music scene while still at its height.  Wuest is also notable for his heavy use of the Mellotron and the Birotron, a very rare tape loop instrument which could sustain notes beyond eight seconds.  Wuest was the only keyboardist at the time other than Rick Wakeman who recorded albums on which he played the Birotron.  Released in Germany on Sky Records in 1979.  The cover is in M--- and the record is in M-- condition.  (For more info on my grading system, click on the “me” icon above.)  For other albums by Earthstar, see my other listings.

Payment and Shipping Information

In the U.S., postage would be about $4.82 for one LP sent by Media Mail. Package insured upon request. Winners outside of the U.S. will be notified of postal fees, but an approximate cost for one LP to many countries is $16.97 by airmail (but Canada and Mexico will be less than this for most single LP packages). Yes, I do combine shipping so if you bid on and win more than one item, you WILL save on postage! Note: I do not gouge on postage and packaging costs. Record will be carefully packaged in a strong, oversized LP mailer. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. E-mail: david.o@jjldj.com.

International Customers: Please DO NOT use the Checkout (Pay Now) option, or you may end up paying more for postage than is necessary, as eBay tends to calculate shipping and handling on the high side. Instead, wait for me to contact you with an invoice and the correct total amount due. I will do my best to contact you within a day of the auction’s end. Note: Import duties, taxes, and charges (typically collected upon delivery or pickup) are the buyer’s responsibility and are not included in the item price or shipping charges. Please check with your country’s customs office prior to bidding/buying to determine what these additional costs will be.
