EATER THE BASEMENT TAPES 1978 UNRELEASED 2ND ALBUM REEL TO REEL STUDIO MASTER
This tape has been baked through process & can be played like new !!!!-Please note that the copyright still belongs to Andy Blade & Cant be released without his consent.
Hi this tape came directly from Andy Blade , it was discovered in Dave Goodmans sister attic, along with other tapes, so now you have the history of this.
After the The Album was released in the summer of 1977, most of Eater's set,dated back to school days. Gary Steadman and Phil Rowland had replaced Brian Chevette and Dee Generate by the time we started working on songs for the second album. We sporadically began working on songs through 1977 to late 1978, This was probably our last recording as a band before we split up officially in early '79 (if my memory serves me...), We had our own studio set up at The Label's basement studio in Fulham. Ian and myself were writing all the songs, now that Brian was no longer in the band. I wasn't all that keen on Ian's 'new' direction with his writing, things were rocky between us,, but besides a couple I didn't like too much at the time - tracks like Reach For The Sky, or Losing Sleep, included amongst the tracks on the reel. The songs we were knocking into shape basically,, Some have never been finished properly, hence the preponderance of backing tracks, or lead guitar-less versions. I'm hoping to work with the band on one day completing them. Surprisingly 'Point Of View' is in there, which somehow never made it to the debut (it was one of my first ever songs, written during the summer holidays of 1976, on holiday in Yorkshire!), which would have made an excellent follow up to 'What She Wants', also on the tape.
Tracks (& various false starts etc) - What she Wants (She Needs), Losing Sleep, Reach For The Sky, Point Of View, Notebook, Typewriter Babies (another classic, that would have made an amazing single!), Julie's Wearing Green (and again...) Holland, Debutante's Ball.
