ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN Crocodiles 1980 US Sire 1st Press SRK6096 Rescue NM

The debut album from Liverpool's Echo and the Bunnymen, released in 1980. Rooted in post-punk with strong psychedelic and atmospheric undercurrents, Crocodiles established the band's signature sound immediately — Ian McCulloch's baritone, Will Sergeant's angular guitar work, and a rhythm section of Les Pattinson and Pete De Freitas driving the whole thing forward. Standout tracks include "Rescue," "Going Up," "Stars Are Stars," and "Villiers Terrace." "Read It in Books" carries a co-write credit with Julian Cope of the Teardrop Explodes — an early Liverpool scene connection preserved in the grooves.

This is an original US first pressing on Sire/Korova Records (SRK 6096), yellow label with the Sire and Korova cow logos. Marketed by Warner Bros. Records, Burbank — correct for the 1980 original US issue.

Pressed at Capitol's Winchester, Virginia plant. The Winchester rifle stamp is present in the deadwax on both sides — the identifier for Capitol's Winchester facility, which handled Warner Bros. contract pressing from the mid-1970s through the early 1980s. WW3 on Side 1 and WW2 on Side 2 — WW designating Winchester/Warner, the trailing number indicating the lacquer cut.

Produced by David Balfe and Bill Drummond, with "Rescue" and "Pride" produced by Ian Broudie. Broudie came up through the same Liverpool post-punk scene — a former member of Big in Japan alongside Bill Drummond, later known as the founder of The Lightning Seeds. Engineered by Hugh Jones and Rod Houison. Recorded at Rockfield Studios, with "Rescue" and "Pride" at Eden.
