THANK YOU FOR VIEWING MY LISTING FOR THE EXCEPTIONALLY  RARE   "EDDIE COCHRAN MEMORIAL ALBUM" RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER 1960 ONLY FIVE MONTHS AFTER HIS TRAGIC DEATH. THIS IS A MONO UK 1ST PRESS ON THE PLUM AND SILVER LONDON LABEL HA-G 2267, THE ALBUM IS ABSOLUTELY SUPERB NEAR MINT CONDITION. THE AUDIO IF JUST FANTASTIC, I WOULD PERSONALLY RATE THE AUDIO AS CLOSE TO MINT ON MY SYSTEMS. THIS ALBUM IS SO DIFFICULT TO GET IN THIS ALL ROUND GREAT CONDITION, COVERS ESPECIALLY DON'T STAND THE TEST OF TIME THIS ONE I WOULD RATE AT LEAST AS NR MINT.

I have been a collector of vinyl for more than 30 years, with a collection of over 2,000 albums, the time has come to part with some of the collection. The following year Eddie and Hank split up, and Cochran began writing songs with Jerry Capeheart, whom he’d met while buying guitar strings at a local music shop. While the two were recording background music for a low-budget film, the producer, Boris Petroff, enlisted him to sing his song “Twenty Flight Rock” in another movie he was making: The Girl Can’t Help It, with Jayne Mansfield. Liberty Records signed him soon after.

His first hit was 1957’s “Sittin’ in the Balcony” (Number 18). A year later Cochran and Capehart’s good-humored anthem of teen boredom, “Summertime Blues,” made the Top 10. It has since revisited the charts in versions by the Who and Blue Cheer. Two more hits, “C’mon Everybody” (Number 35, 1958) and “Somethin’ Else” (Number 58, 1959), established him as a star, especially in England.

Cochran toured steadily, backed by the Kelly Four (bassist Connie Smith, who was later replaced by Dave Schrieber; drummer Gene Ridgio; and a series of pianists and saxophonists). He was an exceptionally talented guitarist, an energetic stage performer, and an early master of studio overdubbing; he played and sang all the parts on both “C’mon Everybody” and “Summertime Blues.” Cochran was 21 when he died on April 17, 1960, from injuries he received in an auto accident en route to the London airport the previous evening. His hit single at the time was “Three Steps to Heaven,” which went to Number 1 in the U.K. Injured in the crash were Gene Vincent and Cochran’s fiancée, Sharon Sheeley, cowriter of “Somethin’ Else” and composer of Rick Nelson’s 1958 Number 1 smash “Poor Little Fool.” Cochran and Nelson both entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posthumously in 1987.

 ALBUM DESCRIPTION

Eddie Cochran only ever recorded one album while alive the 1957 "Singin' To My Baby", in September 1960 Liberty released his second album which contained twelve of Cochran's hits while alive, including the ironically titled "Three Steps To Heaven". His remarkable talent for someone so young is demonstrated by the fact that eight of the songs are his own compositions.

I can only describe the audio as stunning crystal clear and vibrant with great Mono reproduction, no distortion whatsoever. It plays through with no skips, jumps, pops or clicks, it sounds almost perfect in my opinion. (Obviously with an album of this age an odd bit of static has to be allowed for, but I barely heard any at all!) I would rate the audio conservatively as Nr Mint.

THE VINYL

On visual inspection the vinyl really superb, the glossy heavy vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable with no sounding needle marks or scratches, not a hint of groovewear. Only under a angled light can any sleeve removal type marks be seen, hence in my opinion I would grade the vinyl as Nr Mint. 

THE LABELS 

The Plum and Silver labels look superb, clean with no marks or writing with very little spidering at all. The spindle holes are perfectly round with minimal signs of wear, exceptionally rare to find in a record almost 50 year old like this. 

THE COVER 

The front laminated half moon flip back cover is in fantastic condition, amazing condition when you consider this album is almost 50 years old. The laminated front is super glossy with virtually no signs of wear, only when angled to light can I see a couple of very tiny laminate creases, barely any wear to the front at all. The rear is very clean with a minimal amount of wear. The spine has virtually no wear at all. Overall I would rate the cover as Nr Mint.

THIS ALBUM WILL BE SENT IN A LARGE BOX WITH CARDBOARD STIFFENERS THE VINYL AND COVER WILL BE INSERTED SEPARATELY IN POLY SLEEVES AND WRAPPED WITH PLENTY OF BUBBLEWRAP FOR ADDED PROTECTION.
