EDDIE HARRIS - THE THEME FROM EXODUS AND OTHER FILM SPECTACULARS - FACTORY SEALED 180 GRAM LIMITED EDITION LP

Born in Chicago in 1934, Eddie Harris gained popular success for his 1961 jazz adaptation of Ernest Gold's theme to the feature motion picture Exodus, for which he became the first jazz musician to release a gold-selling record, the acclaimed Exodus To Jazz. Strongly criticized by purists for his commercially successful take on jazz he responded with a series of albums that crowned him the king of electric Varitone sax the most important of which was 1967's The Electrifying Eddie Harris. This LP presents a series of film themes revisited by this genius of pop jazz which include the above mentioned "Exodus" and some immortal flick tunes like "Moon River", "Spartacus" and "Gone With The Wind".

Selections:
1. Exodus
2. Green Dolphin Street
3. Moon River
4. Pocket Full Of Miracles
5. Spartacus
6. Never On Sunday
7. Lawrence Of Arabia
8. Tonight
9. Laura

EDDIE HARRIS THE IN SOUND 180 GRAM AUDIOPHILE PURE PLEASURE RECORDS High Quality Pressing!

Remastered By Ray Staff at Air Mastering!

Eddie Harris is caught in top form; recorded in 1965 along with Cedar Walton, Ron Carter, Ray Codrington and Billy Higgins.

"This is one of Eddie Harris' great records. The playing is inspired! What a band! Cedar Walton (piano) and Billy Higgins (drums), Lee Morgan's favourite rhythm section. The underrated but popular tenor saxophonist introduces his "Freedom Jazz Dance," which would become a jazz standard after featuring on Miles Davis' album Miles Smiles. Plays one of the earlier versions of "The Shadow of Your Smile," romps on "Love for Sale" and "'S Wonderful," and also performs "Born to Be Blue" and his own "Cryin' Blues." Harris is heard in prime form in a quartet/quintet with pianist Cedar Walton, bassist Ron Carter, drummer Billy Higgins, and part-time trumpeter Ray Codrington. A gem." - Scott Yanow, All Music Guide

AND THE BONUS "IS IT IN" -

IS IT IN - Eddie Harris would be in that group of jazz artists called Ghetto Jazz...background music playing on the stereo or juke box in some hole-in-the wall bar and grill or after-hours spot. Eddie would be played, so would greats like Jimmy Smith, Jimmy Mcgriff, Wes Montgomery, Bro Ray Charles, early Crusaders... Accessible and grooving tunes that are not too far out of reach to us commoners...

Tracks include: Funk aroma - Happy Gemini - Is It In - It’s War - Space Commercial - Look Ahere - These Lonely Nights - House Party Blues - Tranquility & Antagonistic.

Eddie Harris on Electric Sax, Piano, Electric Piano and Vocals

Ronald Muldrow on Guitar and Guitorgan

Rufus Reid on Electric Bass and String Bass

William James on Drums and Electric Bongos
