Varèse (1910)

Edgard Victor Achille Charles Varèse (French: [ɛdɡaʁ viktɔʁ aʃil ʃaʁl vaʁɛz]; also spelled Edgar;[1] December 22, 1883 – November 6, 1965)[2] was a French-born composer who spent the greater part of his career in the United States.

Varèse's music emphasizes timbre and rhythm. He coined the term "organized sound" in reference to his own musical aesthetic.[3] Varèse's conception of music reflected his vision of "sound as living matter" and of "musical space as open rather than bounded".[4] He conceived the elements of his music in terms of "sound-masses", likening their organization to the natural phenomenon of crystallization.[5] Varèse thought that "to stubbornly conditioned ears, anything new in music has always been called noise", and he posed the question, "what is music but organized noises?"[6]

Although his complete surviving works only last about three hours, he has been recognised as an influence by several major composers of the late 20th century. Varèse saw potential in using electronic media for sound production, and his use of new instruments and electronic resources led to his being known as the "Father of Electronic Music"[7] whilst Henry Miller described him as "The stratospheric Colossus of Sound".[8]

Varèse actively promoted performances of works by other 20th-century composers and founded the International Composers' Guild in 1921 and the Pan-American Association of Composers in 1926

Robert Craft with his wife, Alva, at their home in Florida, circa early 1990s.

Robert Lawson Craft (October 20, 1923 – November 10, 2015) was an American conductor[1] and writer. He is best known for his intimate professional relationship with Igor Stravinsky, on which Craft drew in producing numerous recordings and books.

Craft conducted most of the major U.S. orchestras (New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, St. Louis Symphony, and Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra), as well as in Canada, Europe, Russia, Japan, Korea, Mexico, South America, Australia, and New Zealand. He was the first American to conduct Alban Berg's Wozzeck and Lulu and Hindemith's Cardillac. Craft also led the world premieres of Stravinsky's later, dodecaphonic works: Agon, The Flood, Abraham and Isaac, Variations, Introitus, Requiem Canticles, and his Bach orchestration Vom Himmel Hoch.

Craft was a two-time recipient of the Grand Prix du Disque, as well as the Edison Prize for his recordings of music by Varèse and Stravinsky. His recordings of the music of Stravinsky with the Orchestra of St. Luke's were originally available on 11 now out-of-print releases from MusicMasters and seven volumes from Koch. Since 2005, Naxos Records has gradually rereleased these recordings

Shipping Notes:

-         I try to get everything out the next available postal day after payment clears, but my ‘day job’ is very hectic and chaotic from time to time so there might be a couple days delay until I can get to the post office.  Further with the Federal closing of smaller post offices (mine included), it might take a couple extra days to arrive.

-         If you need it quickly, just ask and I usually have no problem accommodating your wishes.

-         I combine shipping.

-         I sell and ship internationally.  Shipping rates vary due to location of where the item is being sent.  If I offer free shipping on any items it is for the United States only unless noted.

Other Legal-eze:
