Up for auction is an old thick Edison 80 rpm record from 1919. I think this is called an Edison diamond disc re-creation. This one has painting on one side that reads, "MABELLE WAGNER SHANK SINGS APPLE BLOSSOM TIME AND ONE LOVING CARESS". There are white apple blossoms painted on above the words. The record has the songs, "WEDDING MARCH" on one side and "LOVE-IN-IDLENESS" on the other side. Both are by different people than Shank. I don't know if this was used in a store to promote the Mabelle Wagner Shank record or why it is painted onto another record. This record is, " Edison 50519-L & 50519-R from 1919. The record is scratched and i don't know how it would sound as i have no player. I don't think you could even play the side with the advertising painted on. IT IS MORE FOR FRAMING AND HANGING UP FOR DISPLAY I WOULD THINK. There are some chips to the edges of the record. It's an old paint job done long ago. I'm listing this because it is interesting and i can't find anything like it listed. Maybe this is something the record sellers used to do. I found the following on Mabelle Wagner Shank. "According to the "Edison Diamond Disc Recreations" compilation put together by Tim Gracyk, Wagner-Shank appeared on seven DD discs: #50560, 50561, 80378, 80380, 80392, 80553, and 80554. The earliest coupling date shown for these discs is in 1917, and they all seem to have been deleted from the catalog in 1924. All of her 80000 series releases are listed as Tone Tests. Evidently she was a coach, artist, and promoter." She lived in Des Moine, Iowa and sang a solo at the inaguration of Governor Warren Garst of Iowa 1908-1909. SOLD AS IS.
