Egg : 1st Press (Debut) Stereo LP 2W/2W

This rare and very collectable progressive album plays to a wonderful standard and the vinyl is in pristine condition.  It has been so carefully looked after down the years and has hardly been played.  A fantastic example.

Released on the red/silver Deram Nova label this is without doubt the finest first press I have ever heard.  It is one of the earliest as it has only a single stamper on each side.

The laminated 'Clarifoil' cover is in excellent condition and has the rare corrected 'paste on' tracklisting only seen on the genuine first pressings.  The red/blue indicator hole is on the back top right.  A duration of 3.14 for an unnamed track between 'Blane' and 'Movement 4' is on the tracklist and again there is no mention of the 'missing' track on the label.

Visual grading

It doesn't get much better than this!  The vinyl has been beautifully preserved and glistens like new!  I cannot pay it any higher a compliment.  It is not in my interests to over-grade any aspect of any vinyl and this is the most impressive stereo first pressing I have ever seen.  S1 has no spindle wear and S2 has only a couple of faint traces.  It has a stunning jet-black glossy sheen and there are no marks or scratches.  All I can detect is one mega tiny faint hairline on S2 that obviously has no bearing on the immaculate audio.  The run out grooves with the JT tax stamps are super clean as are the Deram Nova labels.

Play grading

There is no need to describe in detail the amazing quality of the audio on offer here.  The immaculate clarity of the sound is perhaps not surprising when you consider how beautifully clean the vinyl is.  As stated this has been hardly played and S1 is quite simply astounding.  From the opening nine second 'Bulb' to the final track 'Boilk' every track plays with stunning precision and depth.  There is just one light tick on 'They Laughed...' but aside from that it plays perfectly and there no clicks or pops and no static or crackle either across the entire side.  I cannot emphasise enough just how incredible the audio is and it is no exaggeration to say this side is 'as new'!  With so many quite sections this is so impressive and as always I have listened to every second of each track to provide a comprehensive grading.  There is literally no intrusive 'background' and Mint- is a fair reflection of the audio quality and in all honesty the minus is only there to adhere to RC guidelines!

I am delighted to say 'Symphony No. 2' is of the same breathtaking standard and the clarity and definition throughout is STUNNING!  In fact the only 'background' is one light click followed by a gentle tick in the middle section.  This is vinyl and for a 50 year record to play with perfect precision is nigh on impossible.  Aside from that you could wish to hear 'cleaner' audio and Mint- is again richly deserved even with the light click which could easily have been there from manufacture.  The depth and warmth of the music is again out of this world and it is patently obviously this vinyl has hardly ever seen a turntable!

In summary this first stereo pressing is a FINAL UPGRADE version for sure.  I have only heard a handful of these down the years but this is by far the best!  The clarity and sonic quality is first class and you would be mistaken for thinking this was pressed only yesterday!  A very collectable prog album that may not be everyone's cup of tea but any keen collector would be hugely impressed with the audio on offer here!

The Cover

The 'Moore & Matthes' Clarifoil cover has only minimal shelf wear.  The edges and spine have no rubbing or marking which is a rarity and the corners have very little wear.  The lower left one just has a little laminate lift/creasing, nothing major and the opening edge has no obvious handling wear at all.  The front cover is so clean and has only a couple of minor creases and only a minimal amount of laminate lift running down the spine, it really is minimal!  The back cover has just a very slight wavy feel to it and remains very clean.  The rare 'paste on' tracklisting has a couple of small edge tears and being a first press the cover has the mono/stereo indicator hole top right.  There is also just a minor amount of fading near the bottom edge.  Overall this is a fine example of this cover.

The Labels

The red Deram Nova labels are almost 'as new' with no marking or writing and only one faint spindle trace.  They have not lost any of their original colour.  The JT tax stamp can clearly be seen both labels.

The Inner Sleeve

The original poly-lined blue Stereo sleeve has no side splits, hardly any no age related fading and only light creasing.  A superb example!
