EGG :  egg  (self-titled debut)  DERAM / NOVA series  SDN 14  (dist. by Decca in the UK)

Classic British psych-influenced Progressive Rock Trio (think The Nice or Soft Machine). This is EGG's first effort. The LP features wonderful keyboards from Dave Stewart (organ, piano, tone generator) (Mr. Stewart also performed with Khan, Hatfield & the North, National Health, the lovely Barbara Gaskin etc.) EGG's solid rhythm section is : Mont Campbell on bass & Clive Brooks on drums. Side Two features one lengthy track (a 24:00 instrumental !!)  This is not a first issue but one from the mid-Seventies issued by DERAM on the NOVA series label (see scan). Get back to the EGG !!

NOTE: This item is dated 1969 on both record labels but the date 1970 is shown on the back cover.

Record is in NEAR MINT condition ~ Cover grades EXCELLENT

VINYL : NEAR MINT (NM) :  Black & shiny with little or no sign of wear or play. Near perfect labels suggest that this LP was very seldom spun.

Record Labels: Very sharp on UK DERAM's Nova Series ; 1 or 2 very faint spindle marks; no stamps, writing etc.

COVER : EXCELLENT (EX) : Medium stock; , mostly near the bottom; seams are intact & sharp with no splits; spine is intact & very legible. The shiny laminated front cover has slight ring wear. The lamination is intact but has a few slight creases, mainly near the spine. The back cover has very slight ring wear & one slight crease. There is slight corner wear, not much. Back cover has the tiny Mono/Stereo hole punch.  Opening edge is sharp. This well-preserved & seldom seen cover comes very close to a Near Mint minus grade.

A SIMPLE VINYL GRADING SYSTEM :

Mint: Still Sealed/Unplayed/Unopened
Mint minus (M-): New and Possibly Unplayed ; a rarely used grade.
Near Mint (NM): Like-new, with little or no visible wear; very collectible.
Near Mint minus (NM-): almost like-new, perhaps very slight signs of age/play/wear that are strictly cosmetic.
Excellent (EX) Very Good double-plus (VG++): Way above average, very nice, no major flaws; played, not abused.
Very Good plus (VG+): An above average used LP; a few visible surface marks/paper scuffs; slight surface noise.
Very Good (VG): An average used LP, far from perfect; a few light scratches. Some noise; plays through, no skips.
Very Good minus (VG-): Reveals a lot of wear when viewed or spun but is not actually defective or warped. Possibly worth keeping until a better copy appears.

LP Cover grading is a much less exact, more subjective science. Generally, the truly collectible grades range from Mint to Excellent or VG++ depending on general wear. Main cover flaws such as split seams or spine, ring wear, cut or bent corners, hole punches, writing, water damage etc. should always be included in a proper auction listing. Records are removed from jackets for shipping & are securely packed in polysleeves & sent inside thick cardboard album mailers with stiff cardboard and bubble wrap. I am not responsible for lost or damaged domestic or overseas shipments, unless the buyer has previously insured them. Records are professionally sight-graded, sometimes play-graded. Keep in mind, used records are very rarely in actual Mint condition. Proper record grading involves skill, knowledge & honesty, not wishful thinking. This LP has been gently cleaned with an expensive VPI record cleaning machine for optimum sound.
