Description
This is an overall fine copy from a 1993 U.S. comp of singles and unreleased tracks by two Minnesota garage groups, the Electras and the Scotsmen/Victors. The link connecting these two groups is songwriter/producer Warren Kendrick, better known for his subsequent work with the Litter, two of whose members were in the Victors. Kendrick produced the Electras' singles and provided them with their original material, and he wrote and played on the Scotsmen's 1965 single, "Beer Bust Blues" (a goofy bit of period frat rock). The Electras material stands out as blistering mid-'60s garage punk, less professionally produced than the Litter but with a more charismatic lead singer in Tim Elfving. Two of their singles were Kendrick tracks subsequently recorded by the Litter, "Soul Searchin'" and "Action Woman." Other standout tracks by the group are a few more Kendrick compositions (one previously unreleased) and a version of the Yardbirds' version of Mose Allison's "I'm Not Talking." The Victors were basically the Scotsmen without Kendrick; their five tracks are rehearsals from 1965. The jacket is close to pristine with a little light creasing (M-). The record was pressed on red vinyl. The disc has some hairline scrapes and light scuffing, and plays with some crackling/light popping (VG++). The record comes with a four-page booklet (M-) and a label advert.
I’m in the process of selling off a large personal collection amassed over two decades. All discs have been stored in plastic lined inner sleeves separate from their jackets. The jackets have been stored in plastic sleeves. I have play graded (spot checked) discs.
