THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PRESSING WITH THE RARE SCRATCHED OUT MATRIX NUMBERS AND THE ESSENTIAL EARLIER MIX OF THE ALBUM - WHICH IS VERY DIFFERENT TO THE SLIGHTLY LATER TRACK ISSUES!! THIS IS THE ORIGINAL WAY HENDRIX WANTED THE ALBUM TO BE MASTERED WITH THE '3D' SOUNDSCAPE IDEA HE ORIGINALLY HAD - THIS WAS EXPENSIVE TO PRODUCE AND THE LABEL RECEIVED RETURNS AS CHEAP STEREO'S AT THE TIME COULDN'T HANDLE THE MASTERING AND THE RECORDS SKIPPED - THIS AND THE COST QUICKLY PERSUADED TRACK TO REMASTER AND RELEASE THE MIX WE ALL KNOW THAT IS AVALIABLE STILL TODAY!... THIS HOWEVER IS THE ESSENTIAL WAY TO HEAR THIS ALBUM AND HAS NEVER BEEN REISSUED SINCE 1968 IN ANY FORMAT!!- ONLY THE FIRST FEW HUNDRED COPIES ARE BELIEVED TO HAVE THIS! RARER STILL THIS IS THE BLUE TRACK LISTING SLEEVE - AGAIN IT WAS ONLY PRESSED IN SMALL AMOUNTS - OF AROUND A FEW HUNDRED.
This is SERIOUSLY RARE it is one of the EARLIEST FIRST PRESSINGS ISSUED IN THE UK on the ORIGINAL TRACK LABEL with the FIRST NUDE GATEFOLD COVER, PRINTED AND MADE BY ERNEST J. DAY & CO. LTD., LONDON W.11. WITH BLUE CENTRE SPREAD TEXT FOR THE TITLES & CREDITS AND THE LARGER PHOTOGRAPHS OF MITCH MITCHELL AND NOEL REDDING. The features I have mentioned, along with the FIRST MATRICES on the HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL, the charcoal slightly grey tone MATT BLACK LABELS with inverted and incorrect matrices / catalogue numbers which combined with the A backed onto D side and B backed onto C side layout to accommodate auto-changers and caused havoc with the stampers on the vinyls and finally the ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVES, all have to be present to CONFIRM CONCLUSIVELY A UK FIRST PRESS & FIRST ISSUE of this REMARKABLE ALBUM.
The vinyl has been visually graded conservatively to be overall in very good condition.
The labels are in overall excellent condition.
Vinyl plays well.
The laminated Ernest J Day gatefold cover is in good condition with creases and ring wear. It has edge and corner wear and a split on the spine. The inside sleeve has got full BLUE lettering and the TWO LARGE photos of Redding and Mitchell characteristic of this early 1st pressing.
