Description

Here is a remarkable artifact: an autographed set of acetates and photos from Elkie Brooks, which she gave to the New Orleans based songwriter/producer Joe Jones, presumably in early 1964. It contains two original, identical Bell Sound reference acetates for the US release of her great single “Nothin’ Left to Do But Cry,” and three photos. One of the photos is signed as following: "To Joe Jones, Ain't you wrote some wonderful songs. I hope to see you soon. Let the good times roll. Elkie XXXX." The sleeve of one of the discs is also signed on each side: “To Joe again, all my love, Elkie. I really hope to see you again. Maybe in London, ey?“ and “To dearest Joe Jones: I hope you dig my record. I'm very sincere. Really. Elkie XXX." See photos above. Both acetates are in VG+ condition with some light surface wear and excellent playback (listen to audio directly from one of them below). The whole set is house in a tattered old envelope that reads (likely in Jones’ own handwriting) “Elkie from England.”
