Another from my personal collection! Very sought after and rare in this absolutely top condition! Ist UK pressing on the Blue Horizon labels! Features the earliest matrix endings on both sides of the vinyl! This is one of the best copies that I have seen and heard! Normally these covers are seen in a terrible state and are prone to nasty rubbing ware but this copy is truly exceptional through out! The vinyl has barely ever been played and of corse this is reflected in the absolutely stunning top mono audio quality throughout!

Very rare and collectable blues album especially in this condition!

Elmore James (January 27, 1918 – May 24, 1963) was an American blues guitarist, singer, song writer and band leader. He was known as The King of the Slide Guitar and had a unique guitar style, noted for his use of loud amplification and his stirring voice.!

 James was born Elmore Brooks in the old Richland community in Holmes County, Mississippi (not to be confused with two other locations of the same name in Mississippi, one in Humphreys County and the other in Rankin County).

 He was the illegitimate son of 15-year-old Leola Brooks, a field hand. His father was probably Joe Willie "Frost" James, who moved in with Leola, and so Elmore took this as his name. His parents adopted an orphaned boy at some point named Robert Holston. Elmore began making music at the age of 12 using a simple one-string instrument ('diddley bow' or 'jitterbug') strung up on a shack wall. As a teen he was playing at local dances under the names Cleanhead and Joe Willie James. His first marriage was to Minnie Mae around 1942 (whom he apparently never divorced). 

 Becoming a-known musician in those days, with the not-so-minor rewards of prestige, good free food, illicit free liquor, women's favours, the promise of escape from the hard agricultural work, etc., must have been as attractive to Elmore as it was to the other musicians of that time and earlier, such as the 'second' Sonny Boy Williamson, with whom he played and the legendary Robert Johnson with whom he also possibly played! Although Robert Johnson died in 1938, James (like many other musicians) was strongly influenced by him, and also by Kokomo Arnold and Tampa Red. Elmore recorded several of Tampa's songs, and even inherited from his band two of his famous 'Broomdusters', 'Little' Johnny Jones (piano) and Odie Payne (drums). There is a dispute as to whether Robert Johnson or Elmore wrote James's trademark song, "Dust My Broom".

 An important side to James's character which may have hastened his demise was his lifelong taste for, and manufacture of, moonshine whiskey, to which he was introduced at an early age. Alcohol definitely killed his band-mates/friends Willie Love and Johnny Jones at an early age, and probably others too. His regular rhythm guitarist Homesick James maintained his longevity was due to his not partaking of the heavy drinking sessions after — and often during — gigs, a refusal that was unpopular with the rest of the band. James was also reportedly an extremely fast driver who also loved hunting with guns and dogs in Mississippi!

Elmore was at his most intence on these, sounding emotionally involved and sounding incredibly well.

Throughout the sessions only a three piece rhythm section is use and this provides us with the ''authentic'' Elmore James of the 1960s. meaning this is what he must have sounded like live in the club's and joints during  of Mississippi rather than on record. Elmore James still has the most devoted, if not the largest following of any artist who recorded after the war and very rightly so. This valuable addition to any collection of his records is going to make someone very happy indeed!

The Vinyl

On initial inspection the vinyls playing surface looks awesome, Almost like new in my opinion!,still retaining their original sheen from new!! This vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free from anyt warping! Please note! This is made of the heavy thick and chunky slab of vinyl that can only be found on the earliest press! The audio reproduction can not be surpassed by the later much flimsier type of vinyl! On my initial inspection of the vinyl, I find it hard to even see a blemish on both sides! In fact this looks barely played more than a handful of times at all in my personal opinion! Any marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only but to be honest I can't see anything at least there are no marks that would effect the audio quality! This vinyl has only ever been played three or four times by me ever ever, since new! 

The Audio Quality

Please note! I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top! system at very loud volume, importantly using a dedicated mono cartridge! It is important to note that these are early recordings, some taken from the original masters and some from the best available recordings. Allowences must be made for this fact! I have given my honest opinion on the audio as i hear it! I follow (no) codes or practices other than my personal opinion on the audio quality!,  and my grades are my own personal opinion,  Graded as honestly as I hear it! I would class myself as highly critical!,, please look at my completed listings of records that I have sold of this calaber and you will find that i normally get it right!

    Plays through cristal clear and vibrant  through out (no) grooveware or that this has been overplayed at all . This played through absolutely awesome throughout with absolutely (no) clicks or pops and quite amaizingly no background noise that i heard at all !!  Audio is rated at the top and in my personal opinion this vinyl plays as good as it gets and as good as the day that I purchased this album over 42 years ago! This will be hard to surpass!

Audio graded  at least excellent plus to very near as mint I don't this that you will find a better sounding original mono copy!

 This is the best that i have heard of this pressing  absolutely stunning audio quality throughout!!RATED AT THE TOP!! 

Please note! I always add this disclaimer! I have given my honest opinion on the audio quality as I hear it! I would class myself as highly critical! Please alow for isolated very light static/tick (not consistant throughout the audio) Please remember that these  are genuine 42 year old vinyls that would have originally been played on a 42 year old system! Although to be honest I never heard any problems at all!

An important note! These vinyls have been stored in a case laying dormant for at least 40 years or more! These would benefit from a constant clean before each play! Build up of dirt and dust in the grooves cause static crackle and from my personal experiance a constant clean reduces this and greatly enhances the audio quality!

The Labels

These feature the original  Blue Horizon labels (only 1st UK press) important note! The vinyl has only ever been played a handful of times only this is obviously reflected on the labels ! Any spidering that may be noticable when angled to the light is very minimal indeed! Try to find another copy of this album that is 42 years old that is virtually unplayed condition! Little if no spindleware the holes are perfetly round! Absolutely Superbe examples!

The record Sleeve

This is the original plain white patented die cut sleeve (not poly lined)  (no) splits or tares! light creasing and minor general aging browning with age only! THE ORIGINAL

The Cover

This is the original 1st press E.DAY & CO  laminated front only cover! with amaizingly no real nasty creases, just two minor creases in the laminate to mention and also minor at the spine/ &edges only. Light crease at the rear noticed if looked for. There are  no splits or tares no nasty hand writing!  any rubbing ware or indeed any storageware is very minimal and you have to look hard angled to the light to notice this, and indeed any storageware the same!  A SUPERBE EXAMPLE 39 YEARS OLD! Superbe spine, all the writing can clearly be seen!   Cover Graded at least excellent to excellent plus in my opinion exceptional!
