Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Tarkus LP

Why this copy is special

Tarkus is not just another progressive rock album — it is one of the records that helped define the entire genre. Grand, imaginative, technically brilliant and instantly recognizable, it remains one of Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s most admired works. Collectors search for it because it represents that golden period when progressive rock was bold, theatrical and completely uncompromising.

Ordinary listeners love it too, because beyond the collector prestige there is real impact here: huge Hammond organ power, striking composition, unforgettable artwork, and that unique ELP atmosphere that makes the album feel like an event rather than just a record.

This particular copy is especially interesting because the runout shows the famous Porky / Pecko mastering inscriptions — exactly the sort of detail experienced buyers and serious vinyl collectors pay attention to. It is better described as a desirable collector pressing rather than exaggerated with careless claims, but it absolutely has stronger appeal than an average later copy.

Condition overview

The cover remains visually good and honest overall, with the famous artwork still displaying very well.

There is visible age-related wear including rubbing to edges and corners, some storage wear and general handling traces consistent with a genuine vintage copy. The spine shows wear, and the sleeve should be viewed as a solid collectible original rather than a near-mint example. Please study all photos carefully for the exact cosmetic condition.

The record has a very attractive visual appearance with strong gloss and a clean overall look.

It presents as a carefully kept copy with only light signs of handling visible under strong light. A very nice player and collector example, with the kind of visual quality buyers hope to find in a classic early 70s progressive title.

The inside artwork remains a major part of the appeal and is included exactly as shown. This is one of those albums where the full original visual presentation really matters.

Collector note

The deadwax has been checked carefully. This copy carries Porky and Pecko inscriptions, which are well-known and highly collectible mastering marks. That does not automatically make it a “grail”, but it definitely makes it a more interesting and desirable copy for serious ELP and progressive rock buyers.
