J.D.SUMNER  ORIGINAL 78RPM-
(BLACKWOOD BROTHERS 1189 LABEL)
"SAD SAM JONES" (Hilarious "preaching" before live audience) B/W
"SIXTEEN TONS"    (gospel version written by J.D.)

Both sides solos by J.D.Sumner, Elvis' super-low bass singer who sang onstage with him as bass with the Stamps Quartet. This record was recorded in 1954, just prior to the the time Elvis and the Blackwoods became close friends. The Blackwood Brothers were Gladys Presley's favorite group and sang at her funeral. J.D. outlived Elvis by nineteen years. This record only copy I've ever come across in years of collecting. It is on the Blackwood white label out of Shenandoah, Iowa just prior to their moving to Memphis.
Record is at least VG++ & plays well.
