Description
"MILKCOW BLUES BOOGIE" and "YOU'RE A HEARTBREAKER" by ELVIS PRESLEY on the SUN RECORDS label, 45rpm, Catalogue No SUN 215, recorded Nov/ Dec 1954 and released January 8th, 1955. NO RESERVE AND LOW STARTING PRICE FOR AN ORIGINAL PRESLEY SUN RELEASE. (See Photos)
This is an ORIGINAL Sun pressing from 1955, with the three manufacturing "push" marks (at exactly 02.00, 06.00, and 10.00 hours, inner label position, on the "Milkcow" photo) and the correct master numbers U-140-45 72 and U-141-45 72 in the dead wax area, and mounted in an acrylic (plastic) glazed gold frame together with a copy of the original "Billboard" review at the time of its release. Also in the frame, there is an ORIGINAL Sun Records sleeve of the time, in superb condition - the 1950s type with the upturned serrated edge seam at the bottom (NOT the later 1960s type with the "closed" seam).
Elvis Presley, 1954-55, pre-national fame Sun Records are the holy grail for record collectors, markedly more so than his later 1956 onwards RCA Victor releases. His five Sun releases are widely regarded as his best, at his most loose and playful, blending a host of musical influences emanating from his sub-conscience, into what amounts to a primer on the creation of rock and roll.
Here is the rarest Sun release of them all (less records were pressed because less sold) - a rehash of an old country folk blues which Elvis "gooses up" in much the same way as he did with "Thats All Right" six months earlier. A sound investment....... Presley's Sun releases continually rise in value steadily.
The "Milkcow Blues Boogie" vinyl has many light scratches and surface marks and plays with background noise and the characteristic Sun Records "hiss". The "Heartbreaker" side plays noticably better having probably being played less. There is a chip to the edge (at 0200 hrs) which does not impinge upon the sound grooves. But do you really want to play it ? This is rare history and as such should be hung on your hallway wall.
For newcomers to record collecting, American 45rpms were manufactured with no centre. It can be played on your record player or Hi-Fi with the use of a clip in adaptor or plastic spacer, as provided with the item. (See Photo)

On 01-Oct-04 at 16:06:52 BST, seller added the following information: For researching music historians: To understand the Presley/ Rock and Roll revolution of the mid 1950s, it is necessary to be aware of the music that came before in the shape of Frank Sinatra, Perry Como, Dean Martin etc. The livliest music came from older men like Glenn Miller and swing bands, and when Elvis came along, with his youthful vitality, unwitting inventiveness, looseness and sponteneity, not only did he unconsciensly achieve (along with Sun Records boss Sam Phillips) a blending of pop, country and rhythm and blues music, each of which were all racially identifiable, but at the same time cultivated a whole new youth culture which adopted his music as its spearhead. This became a musical revolution that, despite the reservations at the time by an older generation, proved the test of time and stayed.....so much so, that today it is difficult to understand how alien his music was in 1954/5. Only later issued Sun Records releases were sold in the yellow "sunray" design, when Sam Phillips, Sun Records owner, dug deeper into his pockets! It is, however, an ORIGINAL Sun Records sleeve (rather than a reproduction one), which in themselves are relatively rare, and which most collectors seem to prefer to house their Elvis Sun historic pieces in, the brown paper sleeve having long since gone.
