ELVIS PRESLEY – “ELVIS’ CHRISTMAS ALBUM” (LOC-1035), AN ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING FROM 1957 INCLUDING THE BOUND-IN PHOTO ALBUM
RECORD: VG+ and still exhibiting much original sheen, although there are many very light surface scuffs, none of which can be felt with the fingertip. This Indianapolis pressing played great upon test-play with strong vocals and instrumentation. Other than some sporadic “ticks”, there were no skips or repeats. The labels are very clean, attractive and original, showing just some very light spindle marks on each side. This is a First Pressing, released in November of 1957. It includes “Blue Christmas” as well as other favorite Christmas standards along with four Gospel songs on Side 2. The matrix numbers end with 1S/1S.
COVER: VG++ (EXC) with no seam splits, tape, writing or staple holes. With this particular issue, we normally see a lengthy, gaping spine split; not with this cover! There is what appears to be a hairline crease along the spine, just beneath the gold lettering, however (please see all 12 photos). The upper and lower edges are smooth and solid, but with some minor wear to the lower edge, near the open end. Ring wear is a non-issue with this cover, although a musty, basement-like odor is detectable. The bound-in Photo Album is in excellent, original condition, although the album has come detached from the upper staple. There is absolutely no writing of any kind inside of the gate fold, including on the photos. A few of the pages show some minor evidence of handling. Covers this solid and original are becoming tougher to find these days for this very short-lived issue! “Elvis’ Christmas Album” was repackaged with a totally new number (LPM-1951) and cover design in 1959 (or 1958, depending on the source material).
