ELVIS PRESLEY – “ELVIS’ GOLDEN RECORDS” (LPM-1707), AN ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING FROM 1958, THAT INCLUDES THE RARE AND HIGHLY-COVETED “FABULOUS OFFER” COUPON!
RECORD: VG++ (EXC) and exhibiting full original gloss! There is a needle scratch across “Love Me Tender” which has very little effect on the playback on that track; just some subtle ticks that do not override the listening enjoyment. RCA Victor's “New Orthophonic High Fidelity” remains crisp and clear on this album with strong vocals and instrumentation. The labels are the scarcer variety with the title shifted far to the left, directly below “LPM-1707”. These labels are super clean, highly attractive and original, with only a few very light spindle marks. This is a First Pressing, released in April of 1958 and includes all of the huge hits that made Elvis who he was, “The King of Rock 'n' Roll”! The matrix numbers end with 7S/4S, respectively.
COVER: NM- with absolutely no seam splits, tape, writing or staple holes. There really isn't any ring wear on this cover! Some extremely light surface scuffing from contact with other albums is all that can be found. This is the “RE” cover, with that designation appearing on the back side, just after the record number to the upper right corner. This was due to a change in wording within the final paragraph in the first column on the back; “After several rehearsal ‘takes’, a satisfactory master was finally made” replaced “After thirty-one grueling ‘takes’, a satisfactory master was finally made”. The spine as well as the upper and lower edges on this cover are fully legible and solid. All white areas remain very white and clean. This is one beautiful 60-year-old cover!
INSERT: VG++ (EXC) with no tears, writing, hard folds or creases. Only a couple very subtle handling bends are noticed under scrutiny. All edges and corners are relatively clean and sharp. Only the slightest of yellowing has begun to appear on this item, which is what you want to see in an article of this vintage! Bogus copies of this “Fabulous Offer!” coupon exist and they are easily spotted by their bright white paper as well as mottled (or blurred) dots in the lighter letters of “Fabulous Offer!”. I have seen at least one of the bogus copies in the past. This coupon is the genuine article and not a copy!
