Description
ELVIS PRESLEY– ELVIS’ GOLDEN RECORDS, VOLUME 3 (LSP-2765) RARE “FLAT LABEL” SECOND PRESSING
RECORD: VG+ on the upper end of the grade with beautiful glossy surfaces! There are a small number of extremely light paper sleeve scuffs as well as one small flaw in the vinyl that can be described as a “divot” on “Anything That’s Part of You” (Side 2, Track 5). It does result in a noticeable “tick” for several revolutions and then quiets down. The remainder of this record played beautifully during test-play. There is no exact pressing plant identifier on either side, but these “Flat Label” issues are mostly associated with Indianapolis. This album was originally released in September of 1963 and includes all of Elvis’ big hits from 1960 through 1962, with the exception of “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and “Return to Sender”. Seemingly, these two tracks were deliberately omitted due to risk of decreased sales in copies of “Blue Hawaii” and “Girls! Girls! Girls!” Original Soundtrack Recordings. This explanation is based purely on speculation, but makes perfect sense. These “Flat Top” labels were apparently manufactured in 1968 as the vast majority of Elvis’ albums found with them are accompanied by Inner Sleeve 40D, such as this example. It is unknown as to how many of Elvis’ albums were manufactured using this “Flat Label” format, but most that I have personally encountered are Stereo pressings. The matrix numbers on this record end with 18S/9S.
COVER: NM- with 97% of the original shrink wrap remaining tightly on the cover! There is a small piece of shrink that is torn away from the front, presumably to remove a price sticker when new. The lower right corner is turned up in a subtle bend, possibly from the shrink wrap being a bit too tight, but there’s no way to confirm that. This is a beautiful, well preserved 52-year-old cover! The original “ELVIS’ Great LP Catalog” (40D) inner sleeve is included.
GOOD LUCK!
