On offer here is a very rare ep by Elvis Presley entitled Love Me Tender from the film of the same name.What makes this rare is that it is the HMV original from 1957.Elvis recorded on HMV for a relatively short time before moving to RCA where there were reissues of this.All HMV recordings are very collectable hence the £150 guideline price in the Record Collector guide book. This record only sold in tiny numbers because EPs were so expensive then at £10 shillings 50p now the equivalent now of around £15.Driving lessons for example were 50 p per hour now £25,fifty times as much.Just have a look at the photographs.See below for more detail and please read carefully.
SLEEVE
I would grade the sleeve as EX+.These fragile laminated both sides sleeve is prone to tears and splits and laminate damage but not this one.The rear of the sleeve has the faintest ringwear on the top right but very hard to spot.The writing is still vibrant and there are no splits at all and of course no names or writing on the sleeve.The front is equally as good with just the same small amount of ringwear on the top right.The lamination on both sides is fully intact with a tiny amount of wear on the top right corner but it is only possible to see this if you look very closely.I think it would be very hard to upgrade this sleeve.
RECORD LABELS
These are near mint.The labels are clean and bright as if purchased yesterday from a shop.There are just a few wispy lines near the spindle hole on side 2 but very hard to see. Of course there are no names or writing on the labels.
VINYL
Both sides of the vinyl are EX+ or to be very fussy EX.The record plays through on both sides without any noticeable background noise.There is a little background noise on the ultra quiet track Love me Tender after all this is vinyl nearly 60 years old not a CD but not enough to spoil the enjoyment because the sound is rich and vibrant.My Linn Sondek can be unforgiving.People have sometimes played me their so called mint copies over the years but I have never heard the track Love Me Tender played without any background noise whatsoever. If the record is held up under a strong light,there are just a few wispy lines probably caused by taking the record from the sleeve but no skips or jumps or clicks. Another comment is that the stampers and matrix on the vinyl appear to be very early.These are GG RT 1 and GO RT 1,the number one being very important.The matrix is G2 -WH-7523 1 N and G2-WH-7534 1N.
Overall I do not think anyone will be disappointed with this rare ep and it will be very difficult to upgrade to a better copy.To give everyone a chance,I have set a low start price for bidding so good luck to everyone.Please see below for postage.FREE TO U.K. BUYERS.I prefer paypal but will accept a cheque or postal order from U.K.buyers but I would need to allow time for the cheque to clear.
