Description
ELVIS PRESLEY Rock 'N' Roll 1956 Very First UK Pressing! CLP1093 VG++.
(Condition details and matrix info at the bottom of this listing.)
Thanks for your interest in what is considered the Holy Grail of Elvis LPs. The first UK pressing. Elvis was unsatisfied with the tracks that were chosen by the A&R team at RCA Victor for his first US long-play record back in early 1956. The studio was in a great hurry to get an LP out to his clamoring American fans. But a few months later, with the British pressing taking shape, Elvis got what he had wanted. The collected songs for the UK version (seen here) are a tour de force of all the greatest rock-a-billy and R&B known to man. There are 6 different tracks on this UK version that are not on the US version. The impressive additions include: That's Alright (Crudup) Mystery Train (Parker,Phillips)
Lawdy Miss Clawdy (Price) and when you add the others: Blue Suede Shoes, I Got A Woman, That's Alright, Money Honey, and the entire album, in of itself, is the best of the best. The liner notes on the back cover are uniquely British as well. Take this line as an example; "Another strong ingredient in the Presley pie is the Rhythm & Blues type of Jazz, popular for the last quarter century with negro audiences but now setting America and Britain alight in a new form as 'Rock 'n' Roll'".
This version of the record is the one that inspired Paul McCartney, George Harrison, John Lennon, and the rest of the British invasion. This is arguably the greatest Rock and Roll record every produced. Its the ultimate treasure of the Elvis LP discography.
Condition and matrix info:
You are bidding on an immaculate, original first-ever UK pressing of Elvis's debut LP on RCA Victor. Condition of vinyl is outstanding; rated VG++. Surface marking is non-existant to barely there. Label is VG+ condition. Sleeve has the UK peel affect --- please refer to pictures. Cracking on the jacket spine. No splitting seams, except for a small separation at the jacket opening, where there is some curling of the cover (see pics). The original rice paper innersleeve has no splitting but a 2.5" tear through both sides on the upper right corner. The original innersleeve is very thin and fragile. I will send the record in a new innersleeve and of course include the original which will be protected with cardboard. If you are not 100% impressed we offer a money back guarantee.
Regarding album cover: The early UK RCA LP's were made of a much thinner card stock than those of their US counterparts. They were then plastic-coated for a lovely gloss, but unless stored in a vault, these covers cracked and peeled with regularity. By browsing the web you'll notice that this cover is comparable or exceeds the grading of most copies out there.
As far as play grading, our phono equipment is not very advanced. However, we played the whole album through on an older Project Debut II turntable, with a basic Ortofone 2E stereo stylus. No skips, very minimal surface noise. Great fidelity. Playing this with a mono cartridge/stylus set-up would be ideal. Record was softly wiped down but next extensively cleaned, ultrasonic or otherwise.
