Description
A great opportunity to buy an ORIGINAL copy of a VINYL LP from the 50's by Elvis Presley called "Rock 'n' Roll".
This is Elvis's first U.K. LP and is on the original H.M.V. plum label with Nipper logo in colour and with gold print. It has "The Gramophone Co Ltd" printed at the start of the perimeter text.
A mint copy of this rarity has a current book value of £500.
This is a U.K. pressing released in 1956 on the H.M.V. label (CLP 1093 mono). It has a total of 12 tracks:-
Side One:- Blue Suede Shoes; I Got A Sweetie (I Got A Woman); I'm Counting On You; I'm Left, You're Right, Shes Gone; That's All Right; Money Honey.
Side Two:- Mystery Train; I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Cry (Over You); Tryin' To Get You; One Sided Love Affair; Lawdy, Miss Clawdy; Shake, Rattle And Roll.
The record is in a lovely clean and shiny EXCELLENT condition. There are spindle marks evident with angled viewing and there are some very light surface marks on the vinyl. I have played it all the way through and it plays and sounds SUPERB. There are only the occasional clicks audible, but this is mainly noticeable between the tracks. I always grade and examine records under a bright table lamp and though there are these light marks in places, some may well have been transit scuffs caused by the inner sleeve. Certainly any marks have little effect on the terrific mono sound quality produced by this 54 year old record.
The labels are clean and free from any writing or major defects.
The matrix numbers are:- 2XAV 255-1N and 2XAV 256-1N.
The record is housed within an authentic 1956 H.M.V. poly-lined inner sleeve in EXCELLENT condition.
The picture cover is a laminated flip-back sleeve, but only in POOR condition I'm afraid. It has an area of 13 cms x 3 cms missing from the bottom corner. This has been replaced at some stage (not by me I hasten to add) by PVC and cellotape to reproduce the strength of the original corner. There is also a repaired tear at the top corner below the H.M.V. logo. Cellotape has also been used to reinforce the edges on all four sides. The text on the spine is still visible (see photo).
These deficiencies should not detract from what is a great example of Elvis's music and if you already own a copy of this album, then you may wish to buy this one and upgrade your vinyl.
Overall a rare chance to buy this highly collectable 54 year old record, particularly for the quality of the vinyl.
